SeeClickFix Blog #3

  • Has the status of your issue changed since the last time you checked it?  Explain your answer.

My status for the SeeClickFix issue is still same as closed case, so my seeclickfix is already been fixed on 5/18/17.

  • On Edublog #1 you were asked to predict whether or not SeeClickFix would fix the problem you reported.  Did you find that your prediction came true?  Explain your answer.

Yes because my issue is already been handled by the City of Oakland’s workers before I even did edublog #1.

  • Are you satisfied with the result of the issue you reported?  Explain why, or why not.

Yes, I’m very satisfied because my issue is already done that quick and surprised that the City of Oakland listened to a high schooler with less power and authority than them.

  • Do you think that SeeClickFix is a useful tool for helping people fix problems in their communities?  Explain your answer.

Will this depends on what issues the SeeClickFix can let you select, but other than that its pretty good for the citizens of Oakland’s voices to be heard and have a great impact on the communities or neighborhoods.

  • If you could change or improve SeeClickFix, what would you do?  Explain your answer.

I will let the citizens of Oakland to pick issues that they have problem with the communities or the neighborhoods (if the City of Oakland can fix the issues depending on what problem it is) and the citizens of Oakland can be happy with their areas to be clean.

  • Which class project do you think was best able to help the people who resisted an oppression gain agency:  SeeClickFix or the May Day March?  Explain your answer.

SeeClickFix is best to help people this way because the person can just take a picture, explain with great evidence, or whatever unlike the mayday march, which will take all day to protest against the people who is not going to listen to them and the mayday march is pretty tiresome and tedious (To be Honest).

  • Do the results of the SeeClickFix and May Day projects imply that one form of resistance is better than another?  Explain your answer.

Its up to the people to decide what’s best for the individuals to know for their style, but the results will convince the people to change over depending on how the SeeClickFix and May Day projects did.

  • What did you learn about the status of the issue you reported to SeeClickFix?

I already know they fixed the problem because I even receive a notification on 5/17/17 of last week on my phone. And i’m surprised that the city of oakland actually fixed the problem.

  • Describe the response you got about the issue you reported.  What was the message you received?  Who sent you that message?

The City of Oakland has received the issue, the issue has been registered and said call back for updates in the Acknowledged section.  City of Oakland  was glad that the issue was reported and they already receive the issue in the same location, so they combined our issues together and my case was closed.

  • Describe how the 9th grade students are tracking the progress of the issue we reported using stickies and posters.  What do each posters mean?

The posters means which case has been open, acknowledged and closed to tell what is the City of Oakland is doing with these cases.  The posters are also keeping tracking progress for the cases.

  • Did you change the status of the issue you reported on a poster?  Explain why, or why not.

My status of my issue changed from open, acknowledged to closed and this means the City of Oakland did  something about my case.

  • Did any patterns emerge on the poster about which issues are resolved, and which are not?  Explain your answer.

Yes, the pattern was the cases of all the students went from open to acknowledged or closed. There are a lot of acknowledged, there are some rarely closed cases. And there are some cases still open that the City of Oakland didn’t do anything yet.

  • Do you think 9th grade students are gaining agency based on their efforts on this project?  Explain your answer.

The 9th grade students are gaining agency because the City of Oakland are listening the students that needed to fix and make the students happy, but there still are a lot of acknowledged cases and open cases available. The rare cases (closed) are getting agency, but better than nothing. And eventually, the City of Oakland is going to do something about those cases that are acknowledged and open.

Yes, the seeclickfix people do help resist and gain agency for the people in oakland because people in oakland have demands to make some changes for people to enjoy their lives better.

The class had to sign up an account by having their email and password.

Describe the issue you are sending from these 4 things (illegal dumping, potholes, cracked sidewalks, and graffiti), post the picture, find the location with the address in it. The City of Oakland has already fixed my problem because I receive a notification, yesterday and they said they had already fixed the issue. So, the seeclickfix do care to get the City of Oakland to do their jobs or the people to do their jobs.

Edublog #8

My subject is Haitian revolution was a war about anti-slavery and anti-colonial between the slave owners and the slaves in 1791. The subject is talking about how the slaves broke free of the slave owners control and battled the slave owners. The slaves broke control by having numbers that overwhelmed the slave owners and the slave owners have so little numbers to fight the slaves. As a result, the slaves won the battle and the slave owners lost the battle in 1804. This is the first time, the slaves finally gain agency over their lives instead of the slave owners taking agency away from them. Now, the slaves have freedom and the slaves owners is tasting defeat.

The slaves was being oppressed because oppression really mean slave owners were abusing and exploited the slaves by treating the slaves like a thing (dehumanization) and using them to whatever they want . Because of this, the rebellion happened with slaves against slave owners to claim back their freedom and respect as human beings.

The group of people who was the oppressor is the slave owners because the slaves owners were abusing and exploiting to make dehumanized slaves to help the slaves owners purpose to gain ¨power and money.

The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica are the authors who wrote the article. These authors has a  website in the link. This website was last updated in 11-9-2016.

“The island’s indigenous population, forced to mine for gold, was devastated by European diseases and brutal working conditions, and by the end of the 16th century the people had virtually vanished. Thousands of slaves imported from other Caribbean islands met the same fate.¨

I don’t think this article or website is trustworthy because this website might be fake or true, in terms of information and evidence. In the section that I read, it didn’t say the author actually witness the events or heard it from somebody else.

The category of oppression is political oppression because oppression really mean that the slave owners forced the slaves to follow by threatened the slaves to do as they told.

The level of oppression is institutional because the slave owners made laws to the slaves in order,  to keep the slaves in check and stay in the system.

The slave owners didn’t treat the slaves as human beings instead treated as things (dehumanized) and the slaves didn’t at least earn money for their hard work. The slave owners took all the money. The slaves are forced to be struck in a endless loop of slavery until someone is brave enough to stand up against the slave owners.

The slaves started a war because the slaves are tired of being treated less of a human being and being inferior to caucasian. The war is to declare if slavery are allow or abolish slavery, once for all.

The slaves refused to follow or work for the caucasian anymore and to prevent that happening to again, the slaves started a war to end this endless loop of torture. The slaves had numbers of africans and by having numbers, the slaves owners couldn’t beat an overwhelming numbers of africans. As a result, the slaves won by greater numbers. The slaves owners lost the battle to their “inferior” enemies that had power over the enemies.

Yes, the war did help the slaves to gain their agency because the war helped them to gain agency from the caucasian that was taken from them in the first place. This is the first time, a war ever happened to gain agency that was taken in history.

Edublog Assignment #3

I live in oakland, and where I used to live is on high street. Where I used to live was in a dead end street and houses around the dead street. I’m a normal human just like everybody else, nothing special. I would describe myself as a son that I help around the house most of the time and helping my mother. My chosen identities are I love to play video games, I like anime, I like exploring, and etc.

For one thing, a dominant narrative is person with privilege and power to talk about another person’s race, or culture, or etc who has less privilege and less power. This dominant narrative people will using stereotypes and giving off the wrong information about person’s race, culture, or etc. There’s a black boy with the negative words affecting our race of african americans. This stereotype made me feel like I’m part of that category, but I’m not because it’s not the truth. Dominant narrative people are telling the others with lies.

A different perspective of my counter narratives means that someone with less power and less privilege are telling the truth instead of lies. One of my counter narratives is black lives matter because the caucasian people don’t care about killing african americans. The reason why because caucasian people thinks that all african americans are criminals and deserved to die. How this image affect me by feeling bad of my own race being killed because of caucasian people don’t accept them and don’t treat them like their own race.

Furthermore, identity is like the stuff that you like it represents as who you are and who you want to represent yourself as. Identity images are the pictures that shows of who you are and what you love. The picture is seen with man (with light color wings) and another being (with darkness around him) with a red apple in the middle is a artwork of a show called Death Note. Death Note is a pretty good anime, and you have to watch it for yourself (No spoilers if you’re interested). Another picture with a man with black and black around is Ichigo from Bleach. That’s Ichigo’s final form: Final Zangetsu. This anime is good right except for the final arc, it was terrible, but you will know what i’m talking about unless you watch Bleach for yourself. These images made me feel that people will get confused if they don’t watch Death Note and Bleach, so I had to bring that out there, just to clean up the confusion.

In conclusion, people will see me as a person who loves anime or basketball, or videogames or etc. If people see me as a negative, but I’m not. I’m a positive human being doing my business and do what I gotta to. My point is that I’m a nice, kind, hard worker, and a human being and you should get to know that person before you label people as enemies. Telling the story of who I really am is important because I want people to know what I like so they can the positive in me, not negative. What I learned in this unit is that Identity is thing that represents as somebody who loves or their favorites. The dominant and counter narratives is a thing that everybody can know the truth instead of lies and negative things. Also, get to know their race, culture, the person before you start judging others that different than you.
